Summary: An accident took away Hyukjae's eyes, but an angel came and helped him.
Lee Hyukjae was a successful young dancer in Korea, he was just 22. He was famous, attractive, and talented, but no one can escape obstacles in life. He took his life for granted by drinking, acting arrogant, and constantly going out, for that he will pay a heavy price. One day while he was driving to his schedule, a drunk driver crashed into his car sending his car spinning off the road and crashing into a light pole. Thankfully, he only broke a few bones, but his eyesight was gone.
Hyukjae’s P.O.V
I woke up from a long peaceful rest, but everything was dark. I blinked rapidly but all I was still drowned in complete darkness. I heard footsteps coming closer and closer.
“Oh, Lee Hyukjae-ssi, you’re finally awake. I’m your doctor, my name is Kibum.” The man said warmly.
“Why can’t I see? I tried opening my eyes, but I can’t see! Help me!” I demanded impolitely. I didn’t care, I needed my eyesight back, or my career will be over.
“Hyukjae-ssi, please calm down. You’ve lost your eyesight, but it is just temporary. We are currently finding you a donor. You’ll get your sight back soon.”
“How long would it take?” I sighed.
“I estimate about 3 or 4 months. In the meantime, I will request a help from the Seoul Blind Association to assist you and teach you how to do things without your sight.” Dr.Kibum informed. I had no choice but to agree to his plan. Although I had to swallow my pride to let someone help me, but it was better than figuring out everything on my own.
“Alright, can I go home now? I feel suffocated in here.”
“You may after we give your manager you medicine and medical forms.”
I was allowed to go home after three hours of waiting. Being blind felt odd, it was like I lost a vital part of me. I tripped 3 times, walking out of the hospital, and crashed into many things along the way. To tell you the truth, I was more frustrated than ever. The feeling of not being able to see things around you was I irritating. My manager helped me walk into my mansion. He walked me to the couch to get some rest. I was about to grab the remote to watch TV, but I realized for the 2nd time that day…I am now blind. I threw the remote somewhere and slumped back on the couch.
The door bell rang and my maid rushed to the door to open it. I heard the guest and my manager talking, and occasionally a dog would bark quietly. The noises moved closer and closer to me, I felt the presence of people standing in front of me.
“Who’s there?” I hissed.
“Umm…Hello Hyukjae-ssi, I’m Lee Donghae, your new guide from the Seoul Blind Association for the next few months.” A gentle but melodious voice spoke up.
“Nice to meet you too, Donghae-ssi.” I replied coldly. He grabbed my hands and shook it lightly. His hands were soft and warm.
“You can drop the –ssi. I hope we can be friends.” He giggled cutely. My face unknowingly tugged into a small smile, but I returned to my cold state. I didn’t want to be taken advantage of, especially when I’m blind.
“We’ll see Donghae-ssi.” I can feel his disappointment spreading in the air. It bothered me, but I got over it.
“Umm, let me tell you about myself before I start me job. My name is Lee Donghae. I’m 20 years old, but I dropped out from college a year ago. I came from Mokpo. I’ve experienced being blind in the past for 5 years. I now work with the blind association to help others who’ve lost their eyesight along with my dog, Bada. I hope you won’t mind having him here, I promise he’ll behave.” He introduced himself cheerfully and full of sincerity. I still don’t trust him though, no one on planet earth is that excited to be helping out others...right?
Donghae’s P.O.V
Hyukjae-ssi didn’t seem to like me much. He seems like the independent type, so helping him would be difficult. Well, I’m determined to help him through it no matter what. Being blind was challenging, it took me years to get used to everything by myself, so the more help the better. I must admit he has a very arrogant attitude, but he is as handsome as my co-workers described. I don’t watch TV often, but many people inform me news about him. He was a famous dancer, I guess. Famous or not, I’ll treat him the same.
“Hyukjae-ssi, have you showered yet? Do you want to eat anything? I’ll help you.” I asked courteously.
“No, I can take care of myself.” He responded nonchalantly. He stood up and walked a few steps, but tripped over the leg of the coffee table. I giggled quietly, so he won’t hear.
“Let me help you. I don’t care if you like me or not. I’m here to help for now. After you get your eyesight back, I’ll depart right away. It doesn’t matter if you’re a star or not, I’ll treat you the same as everyone else. I’m not going to be nice to you just because of your status.” I explained straightforward. I couldn’t read his expressions, but I smiled when he reached his arms out to be pulled up.
“I need to take a shower, please take me to my room upstairs.” Hyukjae mumbled.
I found his room right away since it was the first one in the hallway. I led him to the bathroom, turned on the shower, and walked outside to wait. I didn’t want to invade his privacy.
“Donghae, could you get me some clothes from my closet?” he requested. My mouth formed a small smile after realizing he dropped the –ssi. I quickly ran over to his enormous closet to get him the clothes. I went through a few drawers before finding some boxers and sweatpants. Minutes later I found some v-necks. I grabbed one of each and dashed back to the bathroom. I knocked on the door politely, and he opened it. There was only a towel wrapped around his waist. There was still water running down his extremely defined muscular chest. I blushed and looked down. I placed the clothes in his hand and walked out immediately.
“Why did you take so long?” he wondered.
“Your closet was huge, so it took me awhile to find everything. Sorry.” I retorted.
“Oh, I see. I’ll ask the maids to show you around later.”
Author’s P.O.V
The three months were like a beautiful dream. It started out cold and dark, but the rest of it was amazing. Hyukjae learned so many new things that enlightened him like partially reading Braille, memorizing his phone’s keyboard, and recognizing food by the smell. He did things that he can’t imagine doing with his sight. For the first time in years, dancing didn’t feel like a burden. He danced out of pure enjoyment and passion. Not seeing beady eyes judging his every movement was a relaxing. Having Donghae around was entertaining. He was bright, bubbly, and over all optimistic. He was a delightful breath of fresh air. His past made him appreciate more in life. His dad died of cancer. His mother and brother both died in a car accident when they were moving to Seoul. The accident caused him to lose his eyesight and more importantly, his precious family. Donghae lived at the orphanage most of his life. One lucky day, a kind hearted doctor offered him eye surgery, thus giving him back the ability to see the world again. Although he could see, he still couldn’t go to college. Tuition fees were overly expensive. All the negativity couldn’t knock that bright soul down. He decided to help other blind people like him. Donghae was magical. Hyukjae learned a lot more about Donghae, they were indeed friends. They were very good friends to be exact, too good.
Donghae also learned a lot from Hyukjae. His dancing skills were superb, and the way he moved was light and charming. He wasn’t the haughty super star like how everyone depicted him. He was considerate and adorable. His gummy smile could outshine the sun. It didn’t come out often, but when it does, it melts hearts. Hyukjae wasn’t the type the smile much. His past also haunted him. He was betrayed by friends and past loves, causing him to be cautious of everyone around him. Money, looks, and fame were the reasons many people approach him. It’s hard to predict who would hurt him, so he decided to shut out everyone. It was amazing how fast Donghae broke past his distant exterior. All good things come to an end, they say.
Dr.Kibum finally found an appropriate donor for Hyukjae, therefore Donghae’s time was up. Hyukjae had to fly to Japan to get surgery. His heart ache knowing he had to depart from the one thing he has grown to love in such a long time.
Hyukjae’s P.O.V
I was at the airport waiting for my flight, but I didn’t want to go. Going to Japan meant not seeing Donghae again. Being blind wasn’t as awful as I thought. The best part was meeting Donghae, but he left without a word after hearing that I will go to Japan receive eye surgery. I took out my phone to call him once again, but he didn’t answer. It was time to go…I looked back reluctantly, and walked inside the gate. The fans were also there screaming and cheering, but the one I wanted to be there wasn’t.
Donghae’s P.O.V
Hyukjae was at the airport waiting to fly to Japan. I stood behind a big column, watching him from afar. I didn’t want to trouble him any further, and I did as I promised him at the beginning. He kept calling, but I ignored it. It was for the best. I never liked getting attach to the people I help. I drove home and went back to my everyday life.
“Good bye Hyukjae, I wish you the best. I hope you would show everyone that dazzling gummy smile more often…” I silently whispered. My eyes were clouded with tears, but I wiped it all away. Only happy tears should escape my eyes.
Two Months Later…
(Donghae’s P.O.V)
The noonas in the building were giggling and squealing over Hyukjae’s comeback after he got his eyesight back. I rolled my eyes and groaned. They were like pouring salt on my wound. I sighed, picked Bada up, and headed to the park near our building for a little walk. We were playing catch, but he suddenly barked loudly. The people walking by were looking at us weirdly. I put on my hood and tried to calm him down. He barked even louder, and I felt someone standing over me.
Hyukjae’s P.O.V
It was my first day off since my comeback, I wanted to find Donghae, but I never had the chance to ever since I came back from Japan. The schedules were even tighter than before. I was sitting in a small café near a park. I was wearing designer sunglasses and a beanie to hide myself. I also brought a book with me, after I got my eyesight back. I learned to not take the stuff given to you for granted. Suddenly, I heard barking noises from outside. It sounded like Bada’s, which I knew way too well. I ran outside hoping to find its owner too. I came closer and heard a voice laughing and shushing Bada. I also knew who that voice belonged to. I smiled. My heart was beating faster and faster as I got closer. Bada saw me and barked even louder making Donghae more alarmed. Thankfully, he didn’t turn back. I stood quietly and admired him for awhile. He had wavy golden brown hair, soft white skin, warm brown eyes, and thin pink lips. He wasn’t very tall, he was muscular but thin, and has a cute round bottom. He was simply beautiful like an angel. I didn’t waste time to sneak behind him and wrap my arms around him. He yelled out in surprise.
“Wait. Who are you? Why are you hugging me?” He demanded. I chuckled at the cuteness.
“You don’t remember me?” I said huskily.

“Wait. Who are you? Why are you hugging me?” I demanded. The stranger chuckled. It sounded familiar…
“You don’t remember me?” he said huskily. My eyes shot open. Hyukjae found me, oh darn. I decided to lie. Don’t get me wrong I love him, but it was wrong.
“No, who are you? Let me go!” I lied.
“You know, you suck at lying right? I could tell you were lying when I was blind too.” Hyukjae smirked.
“I seriously don’t know you though…You should leave.” I tried again, hoping he would leave.
“Oh, still playing dumb? Let me remind you.” He pulled me closer and our lips crashed. It was sweet and needy. I can’t believe I lost my first kiss; I was saving it for so long. I slumped onto the ground and sighed.
“What are you doing here?”
“I’m here to take back what’s mine.” He smiled.
“I’m not yours, pabo. I was you helping when you couldn’t see. Now that you can see again, I no longer work for you.”
“So I was just another boss to you?” He sounded slightly angry. It was harsh, but whatever it takes to make him leave.
“Pretty much it…”
“You’re a liar. You should stop before it becomes a habit. I know you love me for a fact. My eyes were blind but, my heart wasn’t.” He insisted.
“Who said I was lying?” Every harsh word I was telling him was hurting me even more.
“If I become blind again, would you be with me forever then?”
“Nope, I can’t take care of someone twice. Please don’t do something stupid like that. I’m not worth it.”
“NO! YOU’RE WRONG. I love you so much. I would go blind just to be with you. Anything to be with you…my love.” He ran towards the road and tears poured out of my eyes. I ran after him but couldn’t catch up. I didn’t want him to sacrifice everything for someone like me.
“NO, PLEASE DON’T DO IT! I beg of you. I don’t want to lose you. I love you too, idiot!” I sobbed loudly making him turn around. He ran back and hugged me tightly.
“You mean it? Do you really mean it?!” I nodded shyly. He embraced even tighter. His heat kept me warm, warmer than any heater.
“How could you say you love me so easily? You barely know anything about me…” I asked hesitantly.
“I know that you love ramen by smelling what you eat every day. I know you love fish because I hear you watching Finding Nemo every morning. I know you like the water because you take really long baths. I know you miss your family very much, because I hear you crying in your sleep. I know you’re lonely because you barely go out and you only play with Bada. I’m assuming you love the color blue because it’s the color of the ocean. Is that enough? If it isn’t, give me a chance to get to know you and take care of you.” Hyukjae confessed. I cried even harder, soaking his shirt with my tears. I couldn’t believe he learned that much about me without his eyesight.
“You’re really creepy…You couldn’t even see my yet you guessed everything correctly.” I giggled.
“What can I say…I blindly fell for you.” He said and kissed my forehead. Bada barked excitedly and everyone around us was too shocked to even say anything.
